As a member of the Complex's senior management team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) participates in the financial and functional decision-making processes necessary for the successful attainment of the hospital's mission.
This position carries the responsibility of providing strategic oversight, coordination and management of all facility financial matters and works closely with the CEO and COO to assess and support performance from a financial perspective.
Responsibilities Assists the hospital's administration in developing long and short-range strategic plans.
Prepares and presents to the governing board the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsible for the development of all operational and capital budgets for the hospital and all departments therein and establishes processes for timely review of actual performance against approved budgets with emphasis on identifying and recommending performance improvement where necessary.
Responsible for all areas of receivables management.
Ensures maximum efficiency in the patient financial services.
Consults and negotiates with third-party payers concerning the payment rates to the organization.
Owns the budgeting process and develops credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, COO, the Governing Board and others in management in performing their responsibilities Administers the hospital's approved policies for cash management, investment portfolio management, debt financing and various insurance program needs of the organization.
Provides leadership in revenue cycle and related billing and collections services of the hospital.
Provides leadership in establishing patient charges in negotiating third party reimbursement contracts and settlements and assists the CEO in key vendor service and supply contract deliberations.
Provides leadership for the selection of and support assistance required by Financial Auditors, Cost Report Preparers and similar professional experts.
Direct the organization's financial planning and accounting practices, as well as its relationship with lending institutions, shareholders, and the financial community.
Oversee and direct treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate and insurance activities for HMC.
Direct procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate account controls and services.
Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation and ensure fiscal compliance.
Appraise the organization's financial position and issue periodic financial and operating reports.
Analyze, consolidate, and direct all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
Work with system management to develop and implement policies and procedures, short-and long-range goals, objectives, and plans.
Ensure the hospital meets necessary financial regulatory and compliance requirements.
Contribute financial expertise in the planning of new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue.
Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the hospital's Chef Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer.
Perform other related work as required or requested.
Requirements Master's degree in accounting or finance is required.
May substitute bachelor's degree and CPA for master's degree.
Minimum 1 year financial/accounting progressive managerial experience in acute-care environment is required.
Knowledge of Critical Access Hospitals, a plus Experience with revenue cycle and cash flow forecasting is required.
Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills is required.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff and community is required.
Ability to maintain confidential information concerning personal, financial, and medical matters is required.
