Summary To serve the members of Samaritan Ministries by assisting the Director of Finance with the day to day financial activities of the entire ministry.
Competencies Accounting and Reporting Processing and Recording Financial Transactions Fostering Communication Corporate Governance Attention to Detail Planning and Organizing Reconciliation and Analysis Acting with Integrity, Empathy, and Compassion Collaborating with Others Neighbor Focus Pursuing Excellence Team Leadership Key Responsibilities Daily management of the Accounting department by: Ensuring check processing functions are up to date; Ensuring that Accounts Receivable functions are up to date; Ensuring that Accounts Payable functions are up to date; Ensuring interdepartmental communications are up to date; Ensuring financial reporting to the rest of ministry is up to date; Creating financial status reports for senior management and as needed; Assisting in the preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies (990, Charitable Solicitations, State Registrations, etc.
); Creating financial status reports for senior management and as needed; Providing critical analysis and recommendations to cost containment of administrative expenses; Ensuring departmental monthly financial reviews are timely and relevant to the goals and initiatives of the ministry.
Lead the accounting team staff with integrity and responsiveness through periodic individual interactions as well as team meetings and devotions.
Responsible for month-end and year-end closing of the financial records.
Responsible for ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.
Determine and prepare supplementary financial reports to enhance ministry wide stewardship of resources.
Provide for continual improvement of cost accounting of the ministry use of resources to enhance improved decision making by recommending new dimensions and projects to track costs by.
Presents various finance reports to top management.
Assist the Director of Finance in establishing and maintaining policies for data accuracy and integrity.
Manage weekly Accounts Payable responsibilities by: Providing critical analysis and recommendations to cost containment of administrative expenses; Act as liaison between Vendors and leadership as needed; Ensuring that there is proper documentation provided for all purchases.
Responsibility to complete third-party audits.
Assist Director of Finance in the management of external insurance policies.
Maintain up to date knowledge of current trends and best practices in the accounting profession and not-for-profit sector.
Review vendor invoices for accuracy and approval Assist in special projects and business plan activities Qualifications and Experience Four-year degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
MBA is a plus Supervisory Experience Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Passion, humility, integrity, self-directed and a commitment to the mission of SMI Thorough understanding of finance and audit processes (Intermediate) Good at organizing and time management Experience in budget management (Intermediate) Good English (Intermediate) and communication skills Ability to think strategically and anticipate future consequences and trends Maintains confidentiality (Intermediate) Accounts Payable (AP) / Accounts Receivable (AR) (Intermediate) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) (Intermediate) Internal Controls Frameworks (Intermediate) Microsoft Excel (Intermediate) Additional Information Tasks are normally conducted in a regular office environment, requiring use of computer and mouse and other standard office equipment.
Staff usually remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Staff will observe safety principles while performing the duties of the position.
Must regularly lift and move up to 35 lbs.
