The Industrial Power Systems Division currently has an opening for an Engineering Specialist – Design for Heads & Blocks on the Core Engine Systems & Components team.
As an Engineering Specialist, you will be part of the team that has design control responsibility for all Head and Block components for IPSD-Large engine platforms C7.

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.
5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives.
Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
In this role you will have broad responsibility for all aspects of the assigned components including new concepts, cost, quality, warranty, and aftermarket impact.
As we develop our engines to meet new emissions regulations and run on alternative fuels such as natural gas and hydrogen, our engine designs must evolve to accommodate new technologies and boundary conditions.
We are also working on key localization and cost reduction initiatives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: A large portion of this role will be to lead and manage NSI (New Source Introduction) programs by working with other experts and our supply base to optimize our manufacturing footprint.
Travel, including domestic and international to visit suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and customers is expected and would likely be 25-30% of the time.
Engaging closely with suppliers on concurrent product and process design and the deployment of capital to achieve our quality, delivery, and financial objectives.
Initiate simulation led design of Head & Block components & systems.
Develop and execute technology, aftermarket, cost, and warranty reduction strategies for these components.
Work closely with the L4 engine platform teams to achieve their goals and keep them abreast of progress and developments Execute maintenance activities such as factory and customer problem resolution, cost reduction and robustness improvement projects.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering Program or closely related field 10 years of relevant work experience Top Candidates will also have: Thorough understanding of casting and machining processes used for heads and blocks.
A strong background/expertise in metallurgy, particularly with cast metals.
Experience in Quality assurance and process controls, especially casting and machining.
Demonstrated initiative and accountability.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills Strong communication skills, including presentation of technical material to managers Strong analytical skills and the ability to bring creative solutions to challenging problems.
Demonstrated data driven decision making HD Diesel engine design, test, or simulation experience – ideally with core engine components & systems, specifically heads and blocks.
Experience delivering designs from concept to production.
