Senior Supplier Development Engineer Mossville, IL or Lafayette, IN Relocation Assistance Approved The Senior Supplier Development Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership to Caterpillar’s supply base in the execution of a robust quality plan within the supplier network.
This position will be used for the evaluation and development of new and existing suppliers worldwide, to maximize Quality, Cost, Logistics, Delivery, and Management (QCLDM) within the supply network.
The Supplier Development Engineer will ensure that suppliers are able to meet corporate and business unit requirements for certification levels and customer requirements for quality, cost, and delivery of purchased material.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Serve as the trusted advisor for assigned supply base.
Assess potential suppliers via on-site Quality Audits process control implementation and effectiveness.
Validate process capability.
Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP, continuously reviewing supplier capacity.
Continuously review production readiness through rigorous review of Supplier PPAP submission.
Collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.
Provide technical support during start-up activities and provide ongoing strategic support.
Will be responsible for the supplier’s processes from design concept to the end of the product life.
Review APQP documentation and participate APQP Process Control Documents for suppliers’ manufacturing processes.
Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technology developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing.
Support and participate in 6 Sigma initiatives with facilities, category teams, and suppliers.
Responsible for the review, approval, and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans.
Participate in the development of Supplier quality metrics.
Coordinate with engineering personnel on matters regarding Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) teams; prove design to production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, specification approvals, meeting cost reduction goals, and participates in the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process with suppliers manufacturing processes.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree AND 5 years of relevant experience OR 10 years of relevant experience in Quality, Engineering, or Manufacturing.
Engineering or manufacturing background with familiarity of machined casting and foundry manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures.
Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools.
Top Candidates May also have: Master’s degree in Quality, Engineering, or similar American Supply Quality (ASQ) quality certification Machining / Machined Casting / Paint / Cleanliness / Part Preservation experience Foundry processes and defect analysis experience APQP knowledge Additional Information: This position can be located in Mossville, IL or Lafayette, IN.
This position may have up to 25% travel.
